Sailing requires passion and expertise. The team of the Yacht Club Isole di Toscana knows it very well. General Secretary Claudia Tosi tells us why this yacht club is a point of reference for shipowners and athletes coming from all over the world.

Hi Claudia, how was the Yacht Club Isole di Toscana born?
Our sailing association was born in 2020 as an evolution of the Club Nautico Scarlino. From the latter, we have inherited twenty years of experience in organizing important regattas. Our aim is to promote sailing among adults and children, as well as to make the Marina di Scarlino an internationally well-known sailing center. In fact, we are among the main experts in the organization of one-design regattas.

Since 2008, the realization of sporting events helped the development of the Marina di Scarlino project, as well as contributed to the promotion of Tuscany Maremma abroad.

What characterizes the activities organized by the Yacht Club Isole di Toscana?
We have an international vocation. Our aim is to realize high-profile sailing events. As I said before, we are specialized in the organization of one-design class regattas. Unlike offshore racing, boats of the same model compete in real-time. The boat that reaches the finish line first wins, competed on equal terms and stood out thanks to a skilled crew. Attending these regattas is a real thrill!

Our record includes prestigious events such as: ClubSwan 50, ClubSwan 36, 52 Super Series, 44 Cup, TF35, Melges 20, Melges 32. In addition, in 2023 we will have the opportunity to host the Star Class World Championship.

The shipowners participating in the regattas are well-known entrepreneurs or belong to the world of high finance. The athletes part of the teams also compete in the Olympic Games and the America’s Cup, for example.

The next event, scheduled for the end of September, will represent an extraordinary season closing. It is a stage of the 52 Super Series international circuit. The TP52s have already competed at the Marina di Scarlino in 2016 and during the World Championship in 2017. After the stop due to the Covid-19 pandemic emergency, we are happy to welcome them back for the 2022 season.

How is the Yacht Club included in the Marina di Scarlino project?
Being part of a structure with an integrated offer such as the Marina di Scarlino and being in a place with exceptional weather conditions helps us a lot when we apply to host regattas. In fact, having a Resort, a gallery with beautiful boutiques and high-quality restaurants, as well as the presence of the authorized Nautor’s Swan shipyard, represents an advantage. We are a small but strong and competitive association precisely because we are part of an excellent project.

Having now a solid reputation, we organize between 7 and 10 regattas every year. We try to avoid the high season, especially July and August because the Marina is also a sought-after tourist destination. Each regatta is sponsored by the Municipality of Scarlino. We are happy to know that our events bring passionate tourism flows to get to know the beauties of Tuscany Maremma.
